As some of us got ready to hop on a plane, hit the road or prepare a special meal, it's all for that one special person, MOM.
In my career, I have been blessed to help hundreds of women become mothers! I have seen the profound need to fulfill the most important function of their bodies which is to create life and nurture. Life that brings a love that is so profound that only when you are a mother can you understand.
As I was going through security at the airport Thursday evening I saw one of my patients. I wanted to shout out her name! She was with her two sons and as my excitement grew to finally meet the younger child I was also becoming anxious as I was losing her from sight and indeed I did. I cleared security and rushed out but realized that it was going to be impossible to find her. Suddenly, as I was walking towards my gate, she walked right across from me! I was so happy to meet the younger child which turned one year old the previous day. WOW! A year ago I was helping her induce natural birth after also helping her conceive naturally.
I looked back and reflected on the journey I shared with this patient. Doctor’s said she had everything against her. In her early 40’s, an executive, and already had one child. We worked together diligently for 6 months and even though there where bumps in the road she got back on track and became pregnant!
I saw her so vibrant, motivated, fulfilled and in love with being a full-time mom. I know many of you have achieved this tough path and some that are still struggling. My honest advice that has given me success with my patients is that one has to be consistent, persistent and faithful.
I realized right at that moment the profound joy and fulfillment it is to help women and men became parents. I see myself as the fairy godmother to many children and providing that help to women that one day hope to celebrate Mother’s Day is the part of my career that I love each and every day.
So Happy Mother’s Day to all of you and I look forward to wishing many others a Happy Mother’s Day soon!
